C.a.r.e.s Program

The St. James Regional Catholic School C.A.R.E.S. program offers before and after school care in a safe and caring environment, which is both developmentally and age appropriate for students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8. The C.A.R.E.S. program is located on the first floor of the school building.

Students should bring an afternoon snack and a drink. They are welcome to bring toys or electronics from home; however, please note that the school and staff are not responsible for any lost or damaged items.

Program Philosophy endorses the core Christian concepts of the school. The C.A.R.E.S. Program is an extension of the catholic philosophy that is vital to faith instruction.

Program Staff are employed by the school and by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. All staff are mandated to have PA Criminal & Child Abuse Background Checks. Staff is also mandated by the Archdiocese to attend "Protecting God's Children Sessions" & Mandated Reporter Classes.

Program Payment Plan: ONLINE only.
Weekly - Payment is due upon pickup on the last day of the week.
Daily - Payment is due upon pickup.

All payments must be paid by the end of the month in order to use C.A.R.E.S the next month. If there is an outstanding bill the child will not be able to attend any field trips or graduation activities until the bill is paid in full.

Any student enrolled in St. James Regional is eligible to attend C.A.R.E.S. at any point during the school year. Before any student does attend either before or after school C.A.R.E.S., families must complete the Registration form and submit the $25 registration fee. The registration fee an annual fee, and most be completed each school year.

On half days or early dismissals, the program will begin when students are dismissed from class.
Tuesday Pick-Up Notice
Please park in the center of the lot between 3:45 PM – 4:10 PM. During this time, PREP students are being dropped off, and it’s important to keep traffic moving in the loop. If no cars are present, you may follow the usual pick-up procedure.

Kindergarten – 8th Grade
Morning Rates:
- 7:00 AM – 7:30 AM: $7.00
- After 7:30 AM: $4.00
After School Rates:
- Pick-up before 4:00 PM: $8.00
- Pick-up after 4:00 PM (until 6:00 PM): $14.00
- Early Dismissals & Full Days: $6.00 per hour
Late Fee:
- C.A.R.E.S. closes at 6:00 PM
- $15.00 for every 15 minutes after 6:00 PM
- After 2 late pickups, families will be asked to make alternative arrangements for their child.
3 & 4 Year Old Program
- Fee: $6.00 per hour (until 6:00 PM)

Please note: Rates are subject to change. Fees are the sole source of income for the C.A.R.E.S. Program and are not subsidized by the parishes or the school.
Drop off & pick Up

Program Drop Off: Parent will knock at the C.A.R.E.S. window located in the back of the building to the right of gym. A posted sign will indicate which window to use. Please wait for the staff to let the child into the building.

Program Pick Up: Parent will knock at the C.A.R.E.S. window located in the back of the building to the right of gym. A posted sign will indicate which window to use. Please show identification and you child will be signed out and brought out to you while you wait outside, by staff.

Q. What is the St. James Regional Catholic School C.A.R.E.S. Program?
A. The St. James Regional Catholic School C.A.R.E.S. Program is an extension of St. James Regional Catholic School. As such, the same behavior code used in school applies to the students in the C.A.R.E.S. Program.

Q. Why is there a C.A.R.E.S Program?
A. Some time ago, the administration of St. James Regional Catholic School realized that there was a growing need for families to have somewhere safe to send their children while they were still at work.

Q. What is the function of the C.A.R.E.S Program?
A. The C.A.R.E.S Program provides a safe and supervised atmosphere where students can complete academic work and socialize in a Catholic environment.

Q. Who can enroll in the C.A.R.E.S. Program?
A. The C.A.R.E.S. Program is available to all student in St. James Regional Catholic School from Pre-Kindergarten (3 years) to Eighth Grade.

Q. When I enroll my child in St. James Regional Catholic School, is my child automatically enrolled in the C.A.R.E.S. Program?
A. No. A separate online registration is required.

Q. Is there any time when the C.A.R.E.S. Program is not available?
A. Yes. Whenever St. James Regional Catholic School is closed or is closing early due to weather, the program is also closed. If school is opening late, C.A.R.E.S. would be closed. There are some holy days and holidays when the program will be closed. Please, check with the Director.

Q. What if my child is enrolled in the C.A.R.E.S. Program but will not be attending the program that particular day?
A. If there is a change in schedule, please notify the teacher that they child will not be going to the program as usual. Also, please notify the teacher and C.A.R.E.S. Program if they will be attending if it is on a day when they usually do not. Please email or send a note marked "Attn: C.A.R.E.S. Program and Attn: Teacher's Name."

Q. Can anyone pick up my child?
A. Absolutely not! For the safety of the child, only parents or the names of those who are listed on file are permitted to pick up your child. The child/children will be signed out and brought to the door by the staff. Adults are not allowed inside the school building.

Q. What will my child be doing during the C.A.R.E.S. Program?
A. Attendance, changing clothes, outside play, snack time, homework, inside play, and coloring.

Q. Is there anything my child is responsible to bring to the program?
A. Yes, a tote bag that can hold their snack and drink, toys, books and writing/coloring utensils. It is suggested that your child bring play clothes and younger children should include a change of underwear. All school clothing is to be labeled with your child's name. Please note that the school and staff are not responsible for any lost or damaged items.

Q. Is the cost of the C.A.R.E.S. Program included in my tuition?
A. No. Those fees and charges are separate.

Q. What if my child gets sick or there is some emergency?
A. If your child becomes ill or an emergency should arise, parents or guardians will be called. If the parent or guardian can not be reached, emergency contacts indicated by the parent/guardian on the emergency list will be contacted.

Q. If my child becomes sick, is the school nurse available? Couldn't one of the program's staff members give medicine?
A. No. School personnel, including the C.A.R.E.S. staff may not give medication of any kind. If your child requires medication during the program session, please make arrangements to come in yourself or send a note advising who will administer this medication. There is not nurse available. If your child becomes ill at the C.A.R.E.S. Program and you are contacted, please pick up your child as soon as possible - for the sake of your own child and that of the other students.

Q. Will my child go on any field trips with the C.A.R.E.S. Program?
A. No.

Q. Because the C.A.R.E.S. Program is an extension of St. James Regional Catholic School, does not mean that the same rules apply?
A. Yes. Any student behavior that is not tolerates in the classroom will also not be tolerated in the C.A.R.E.S. Program. Students are to give the C.A.R.E.S. staff the same respect and courtesy that they offer to their teachers during the school day.

Q. Who operates the C.A.R.E.S. Program?
A. The program is run by the Director and is staffed by aides.

Q. Will all homework be done in the program?
A. The staff will try to have students complete their written assignments. Studying can not be done because of the program design.

Q. Do the students have any responsibilities?
A. Yes. The students are expected to clean up after themselves before they leave with their parents or guardians. The students are to address all staff members in a professional manner (ex. Mrs. Robinson, Miss C or Miss Kim).
